Exploring YOUR Part in Relationships

A weekly process group offered by AMI-Quebec (total duration of ten months)

Family caregivers often attribute their relational difficulties with loved ones to the mental health challenges of that person. They expect THEM to change in order to improve the relationship. However, relationships are, by definition, a two-way street to which both parties contribute: the ill person, and the caregiver.

Navigating your relationship with a loved one with mental health challenges can be difficult!

As a caregiver, you may find yourself stuck in a ‘dance’ that leaves you feeling discouraged, alone, and often frustrated: what is it that prevents you from getting out of such an impasse?

Would you like to understand YOUR contribution to the relationship with your loved one who lives with mental illness? And would you like to explore HOW these contributions impact your relationship?

AMI-Quebec is offering a 10 month free process group for those who are ready to do just that: reflect on their past experiences and how they may impact relationships at the present time. Recognizing possible patterns can be the first step in adjusting some behaviours and this can help to improve relationships.

The group will be led by a therapist and will meet weekly on Monday evenings from 6-7:30pm (once a month in person at AMI-Quebec’s office, 5800 Decarie, Montreal–all the other sessions are held online via Zoom). Participants will be expected to commit to the 10 month period (September 2026 to the end of June 2027).
