Call for help!

In Canada, we have some important, easy-to-remember numbers to connect us to the help and resources we need. To know which one to call, here is an overview of their services. It’s important to note that all numbers are available both to people who need help for themselves and for family, friends, or anyone else who is concerned about someone who is struggling. They are all free and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

211

This is the best source to explore and connect to government and community-based non-clinical health and social services. It is free, confidential, and accessible in more than 150 languages by phone, text, chat, and through their website 211.ca.

811 Info-Santé

811 is a free and confidential telephone consultation service which puts Canadians in contact with a nurse to discuss non-urgent mental health issues. The nurse can evaluate your situation, give you advice, direct you to the appropriate resource, and answer any questions.

988

988 is the Suicide Crisis Helpline. Staffed by trained crisis responders, they provide a safe space for mental health support and suicide prevention. They will work with you to find coping techniques and to create a safety plan. It is available by phone and by text in both English and French. Depending on your area, there may be specialized support for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people. 988.ca

911

This number is for emergencies requiring immediate help, including mental health crises. Examples include someone being an immediate danger to themselves or others, if they are suffering a severe psychotic episode, or have attempted or expressed thoughts of suicide. Call 911 to reach police, fire, or medical help.
